Dear Speller,
Maybe this is your first time competing in a spelling bee, or perhaps you’ve been a speller for years. Regardless, being a speller is a big deal. Having success in spelling bees takes time, hard work, and dedication. You should to learn to love it. As a former speller myself, I know this for a fact. You can do well in a spelling bee if you simply “like words,” but to do really well, you must LOVE words. I began in this first category, finding words interesting, yet I wasn’t crazy about them. As I continued studying throughout the years, my love for words became more and more profound. This comes in time. While you are finding your place in the spelling bee world, so to speak, try to make things fun for yourself. Play word games, sit down with some hot chocolate, have your friends quiz you, and make traditions out of your spelling bee journey! Soon, you will find yourself hungry to learn new root words, thirsty to grow your vocabulary, and ready to learn.
As ever yours,
Juliette Anderson
